All has been quiet in the Boards of Canada camp since the 2005 release of The Campfire Headphase, but lately I’ve been revisiting the warped, darkly nostalgic soundscapes that made them one of the most revered electronic acts of the late 1990s. As the years go by, their trademark sound avoids being buried under the heavy weight of influence and imitation, their material seemingly hermetic to it all.
BoC compositions often had a sinister feel lurking just under the surface, something that has clearly influenced this fan-made video. It takes the surreal but oddly whimsical One Got Fat cycling safety video and turns it in to something far more disturbing that touches on the dark heart of suburbia, with a gang of children in ape masks slowly, purposefully tooling around the neighbourhood. Awesome.
