Photos: The Declining Winter & Fieldhead

It was great to have the lovely folks from The Declining Winter play at Colour again – they sounded better than ever  and it was really exciting to hear new material from them. Live, their tense, brooding soundscapes were given urgency by a strong rhythm section, adding to the drama of their recorded material. The violins that contort around Richard Adams’ measured guitar further add to the intensity.

Fieldhead were also a revelation. Paul Elam’s ghostly compositions translate well to the live setting, with mesmerising ambient drones that come in and out of focus, surprising you with unexpected flashes and twists. I would definitely recommend They Shook Hands For Hours for late night headphones listening.
