View From Other Side

If you came to any of Light House events, you’ll know that we love projecting found vintage slides. Well, it’s developed into something of a hobby in its own right for me and it seemed like a good idea to share them with a wider audience. View From Other Side is an online archive for them, updated once every day with a new slide.

Down the Highway, America ’64
Exact Location Unknown

All of the slides are over 30 years old and many contain very iconic images of their time. I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of nostalgia and by the question: can you be nostalgic for a space and/or time that you’ve never experienced?

As a reminder that the slides are physical objects with their own history, I’ve also scanned their frames, which sometimes display small clues about their history. Often slides are found ‘as is’ with no information, but their charm is partly the mystery. No discolouration, scratches or marks are removed after scanning – they too are a part of the history of the slide.

Although the images on the site are quite lo-res, I would love to see these images used in creative projects. If you’re ever interested in using one of them, email me and I’ll get a hi-res image to you.

You can add the View From Other Side feed here, and recieve a new slide in your reader every day.
