The Printed Press

There’s a couple of great compilations free with both Uncut and bleeding-edge hipster bible Plan B this month. Uncut’s Long Time Gone collects together 15 “all-new American classics” and includes tracks by Isobel Campbell, Fleet Foxes, Silver Jews and Bon Iver.

I find it hard to get all the way through an article in Plan B, often because the writing seems more focused on the author than the subject matter and because they seem to feature some stuff just so they can rip it apart. I can’t fault the free End of the Road Festival CD that comes with the June issue though. It features The Mountain Goats, Micah P Hinson, Dirty Three, Low, Songs:Ohia and Mercury Rev’s classic ‘Opus 40’ from Deserter’s Songs.

I’m sure both CDs are going to mean I spend even more money on music this month. Plus, as much as I love the online music press, music magazines are essential bathroom reading.
